Dorothy Syfert Dorothy Syfert was born in Eugene, Oregon, to parents who immigrated to the United States shortly after WWII. In 1985, she graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and the following year earned a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Ms. Syfert began “teaching” at the age of four when she helped her cousin with his first grade homework after school. Many years later, in 1985, she began teaching at Monroe. During her years at Monroe, she has taught a variety of classes, but each school year she has at least one 8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies block. Ms. Syfert views life as a continual learning process and feels it is an honor to be a part of the educational system. She enjoys learning and sees teaching as a cooperative learning process between students and teacher. She is especially fascinated with the brain and enjoys learning about the connection between the body and the brain. In her spare time, Ms. Syfert likes to do a variety of activities: outdoor fun (especially at the ocean or in the mountains), visiting with family and friends, playing table or yard games, reading, enjoying music, solving various types of puzzles, and practicing martial arts. Two of her main goals are to continue learning about and enjoying other cultures and to live a healthy, balanced life. |
