March 13, 2008

Members Present: Peter Tromba, Margot Pillette, Dorothy Seifert, Steve Robare, Peggy Quinn, Molly Hammans, Pam Schmieding, Linda Firth, Emma Catalano

Agenda: Survey Data, Site Council notes, Staff Development Requests, Star Staff Report, Respect Assembly, Staff Development Funds:

Star Staff Report: Scavenger hunt preparation is under way!

Last period Friday the 21 of March will be a student designed and run Respect Assembly (Students from Sheldon will be present). All staff will get an Assembly Packet Monday, March 17.

Budget Session Procedure: Areas of Focus: The Budget Process itself, and Staff Budget Training.
Process: Focus on the results of the process not the process itself. The final budget should reflect school priorities and program goals. Start budgeting earlier, by identifying what we as teachers want and need(via teams?) in the FALL. Next, look at what other funding sources we can tap before we ask for the school budget to fund it.

The goal of the site council should be to make sure that by the time we have the budget meeting, there are no surprises.

Site Council will spend ~50% of our staff development funds for a grant writer to provide technical assistance to support our getting other resources. Site Council will also support release time for teacher planning to develop new programs.

Side Discussions: Site council will BEGIN to create a list of frequently asked questions for new teachers. This list will be added to the teacher handbook and will be something we go over during the school year.

Administration and front office will resurrect the Staff Handbook this Summer.

Leadership will discuss leadership members taking on the role of mentors.

Looked at Portrait of a Graduate Survey results. Discussed Career Category. Items with 50% or more participants agreeing will be looked over at the next site council meeting.

P.E. Survey filled out by 14 people - 3 questions; 57% agree with creating 8th grade high school Health prep
7th grade pairing Art with P.E. received only 5 of 14 positive response.
6th P.E. remain the same- 77% positive response
